Do you fear success?

On the topic of procrastination, productivity and motivation, www.pickthebrain.com is full of tips and articles about boosting all of these — and yes, I really do mean boosting procrastination, because among others is a super piece about how to turn procrastination to your advantage.

The article 7 Ways to Boost Your Productivity was also interesting and helpful, suggesting that procrastination may sometimes stem from a fear of failure. But I would like to moot the fear of success as every bit as important. This may sound odd, but how many times do we set off on a task only to self-sabotage it half-way through?

People who fear success sometimes subconciously doubt that they deserve the rewards that come with success… or a fear that they won’t be able to live up to the perception of being a high achiever. Perhaps we feel fraudulent, suspecting that success would be down to a fluke and that we might disappoint ourselves and others by never being able to recreate our achievement. Far safer to never find out by never succeeding!

The question is, how do we overcome this?
